Jewellery Making 1

An Introduction to jewellery making, learn basic techniques including piercing, filing, soldering, shaping, forming, design layout and application. You will use metals such as silver, brass and copper. Students will learn the correct equipment techniques and safety protocols for the construction of metal jewellery.
This class will give you time to finish 2 pieces. 15 hours.
No Experience necessary.

Jewellery Making 2

In this intermediate class students will expand their knowledge and learn new fabricating techniques. You will continue to strengthen and develop skills in measuring, fitting soldering and finishing metal. Emphasis will be on cabochon stone setting and cold connections.
Prerequisite: Jewellery 1 or the equivalent.

Jewellery Making 3

In this advanced silversmithing class students continue to learn new fabricating and design skills. You will learn cuttlefish casting, then stamp and tool making. You will receive demonstrations in making findings like necklace clasps, earring hooks and posts. Students will be encouraged to incorporate their skills into new designs.
Prerequisite: Jewelry/Metalsmithing I or equivalent

The Art of the Box

This class explores the subtleties and creative potential of a common item--the box. As container, dispenser, reliquary or shrine, the box is an amazingly versatile structure with limitless potential for jewelers and metalsmiths. Following suggested projects or your own inspiration, you will create at least one small-scale box, with either a friction-fit lid or one with hinges, while learning about scoring and folding metal, methods for texturing metal surfaces, construction tricks, advanced soldering tips and techniques and more.
Prerequisite: Jewelry/Metalsmithing I or equivalent

Instructed Studio Time

Continue working in a group class environment with Caroline’s help and advice. You will work on projects of your design with your supplies.
